Turkey's Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has called on the newly formed Future and DEVA parties to join the People's Alliance, which the MHP formed with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in 2018.

“According to the new dynamics of the politics, these parties do not stand a chance to establish a reputation in the eyes of the public. The best thing they could do would be take refuge in and join the People's Alliance," MHP Vice Chair Semih Yalçın told Beyaz Gazete in an interview released on June 29.

Yalçın claimed that neither Democratic and Progress Party (DEVA) nor Future Party will have a future in Turkish politics, saying that the People's Alliance will draw some of the opposition parties in the long-run. “The People's Alliance will grow in time and will dominate all harbors of politics, staying permanent,” he said.

Both Future and DEVA parties are two AKP breakaway parties that launched over the past six months. Conservative Future Party was established by former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in December 2019, whereas centre-right DEVA was launched by former Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan in March. Both of the politicians broke their ties with the AKP citing deep differences with the ruling party.

Asked from which fractions of the society DEVA and Future parties can attract votes, Yalçın said: “These are nylon parties. They have a structure which can be pierced and knocked in the slightest blow. They are like football teams that have no spectators. They have no base and electorate.”
