Murder case of 12-year-old Kurdish girl to proceed after permission granted to investigate policeman
The murder case of 12-year-old Helin Hasret Şen will proceed after the Diyarbakır governor's office granted prosecutors the authority to charge a police officer in the case. Şen was killed in the head by police on Oct. 12, 2015 after going out to get bread in Diyarbakır's Sur district.

The governor's office of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır has granted prosecutors the authority to prosecute a police officer for murdering 12-year-old Helin Hasret Şen in 2015, Jinnews reported on April 8.
The 12-year-old lost her life on Oct. 12, 2015 as a result of fire opened from an armored cobra vehicle in Diyarbakır's Sur district. She had left the house during the curfew to go and buy bread.
Afterwards, a legal case was launched against policeman Abdullah E. for “reckless killing.”
In a hearing in June 2020, the Diyarbakır 1st Heavy Penal Court suspended the trial on the grounds that “no investigation permission” was obtained to prosecute the policeman in question.
The Human Rights Association (İHD) pursued the case and lodged an appeal for the investigation permission to be granted.
İHD Diyarbakır branch's president Abdullah Zeytun announced on April 6 that the Diyarbakır governor's office had granted the prosecutors the authorization to proceed with the investigation into Abdullah E.
Public officials in Turkey cannot be subject to criminal investigation without the permission of administrative authorities concerned.
