Number of asylum seekers from Turkey in Germany increases by 51 percent

The number of asylum seekers from Turkey registered in Germany increased by 51 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year. In the first three months of this year, 449 Turkish citizens were deported.

The number of Turkish asylum seekers registered in Germany increased by 51 percent compared to the previous year and reached 152,000 in 2023.

The total number of asylum seekers registered in the German Government’s registrar at the end of 2023 increased by 95,000 compared to the previous year to 3.17 million, according to the data from the German Federal Statistical Office reported by the Deutsche Welle Turkish.

The three percent increase in the total number was mainly attributed to Turkey, Afghanistan, and Syria. After Ukrainians, Syrians, and Afghans, Turkish citizens constitute the largest group of asylum seekers.

Between January and March 2024, North Macedonian citizens topped the list of foreigners deported from Germany, with 483 individuals sent back. Turkish citizens were the second most deported group, numbering 449.
