Number of staff in Turkey's top religious body to exceed 130,000

Turkey's Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet) announced that it will be hiring 7,800 employees, which will bring the number of its staff to more than 130,000.

Turkey's Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet) announced that it will be hiring 7,800 new workers, bringing their total staff count to above 130,000.

The directorate said that they would be hiring for the positions of contract Quran course educators, staff for their religious İmam Hatip schools and muezzins.

The top religious body's 2021 Performance Report revealed that their local mufti's offices employed some 102,082 persons in 2019, a number that spiked to 125,079 in 2020 and brought the total staff in the office to 128,469. 

The most recent adjustment will bring the body's staff count brought the office's headcount to above 130,000, while a budget proposal in parliament at the moment suggests a significant bump in the Diyanet budget.
