Number of workers on unpaid leave nears 2 million in Turkey

The number of workers on unpaid leave has neared 2 million, according to statistics shared by Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR). A total of 1,703,147 workers were put on unpaid leave between April and June, while the number increased to 1,901,212 between April and July.

The number of workers on unpaid leave has neared 2 million, according to statistics shared by Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR).

Some 200,000 workers were put on unpaid leave in the past month, daily Cumhuriyet reported on Aug. 13.

A total of 1,703,147 workers were put on unpaid leave between April and June, while the number increased to 1,901,212 between April and July.

İŞKUR data showed that 3.6 billion Turkish Liras were paid to some 1.9 workers put on unpaid leave.

The workers who are put on unpaid leave receive 1,168 liras as financial aid.

Workers on unpaid leave getting state aid less than half of hunger threshold

Some 464,930 workers received unemployment payment in June, while the number decreased to 401,645 in July. The payment done to them was revealed as 494.6 million liras.

The number of those benefiting from the short-time working allowance also decreased from 2,4 million to 1.7 million between the said months. Around 2.5 billion liras were paid to workers in this category in July.
