A worker was killed in an accident at the construction site of a dormitory in Istanbul’s Boğaziçi University campus on Aug. 3.

The Assembly for Worker Health and Safety (İSİG) reported that the worker died when the trailer of the sand dumping truck overturned on its side, trapping the worker as a result.

The worker was identified as 44-year-old Abdülkadir Doğan.

The university students on Aug. 4 protested the university’s “trustee” rectorate for the murder of the worker.

In 2021, Turkish President Erdoğan appointed Naci İnci, a pro-government figure who took a harsh stance against students and academics, as the rector of the university.

Students, academics, and alumni have deemed him a "trustee" of the government as İnci has been targeting students, dismissing academics, and banning alumni from entering campuses if they were not in line with the government.
