Over 13,000 people detained under torture in last four years in Turkey

At least 13,965 people were detained under torture in Turkey between 2018-2021, and 266 of them were injured during these detentions, the Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) has revealed.

The Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) said that at least 13,965 people were detained under torture between 2018-2021 in Turkey, of whom 266 were injured. 

In a statement shared on social media, TİHV said that illegal and uncontrolled use of violence accompanied these detentions, violating universal law and country laws. 

Of these violent detentions, 3,997 occurred in 2018, 4,253 in 2019, 2,014 in 2020, and 3,701 in 2021.

Lastly, the harsh torture made by the police on March 20 in the southern province of Adana towards members of the opposition Islamist Furkan Foundation, including its leader, Alparslan Kuytul, stirred huge reaction on social media.
