Police officers in the town of Kuşadası in Turkey's western province of Aydın on May 13 detained a man for refusing to wear a face mask.

Inthe course of detaining the man, the police took him to the groundand cuffed his hands behind his back.

The incident came after the Aydın Governor's Office made it obligatory for pedestrians to wear a mask while walking on streets amid the coronavirus measures.

During a patrol on May 13, police officers instructed a man to put his mask on. The warning resulted in an argument, after which the man was detained.

Those passing by the scene recorded the incident on their mobile phones, with the footage showing that police officers themselves were maskless. Also, many people watching the incident were seen flouting social distancing measures.

In April, Turkey ordered all citizens to wear masks when shopping or visiting crowded public places.
