Population surpasses 1 million in Aegean holiday town of Çeşme during Eid holiday

The population of Turkey's Aegean vacation town of Çeşme surpassed one million people per day as out-of-town visitors and residents flocked to the district for the Eid al-Adha holiday, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on July 21.
The crowds reportedly flocked to local beaches, creating one of the most crowded days on and around the Ilıca Beach, while the travelers also created traffic congestion around the district.
More than 500,000 vehicles entered the district during the first three days of the Eid holiday, Çeşme District Mayor Ekrem Oran said, adding that one-day visitors tipped the population over one million.
All accommodations in hotels and bed and breakfasts have been reserved, stimulating the local industry that suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic, the mayor added.
The population of the district is 46,350 regularly, Oran said, adding that he has never seen Çeşme so crowded in the 50 years of his life.
