President Erdoğan discloses wealth, says he has a debt of 5 million liras

Turkey’s Supreme Election Council (YSK) published the official presidential election results in the June 1 issue of the Official Gazette. The announcement also included the assets of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who reportedly has mere 1.8 million liras in banks and instead owes 5 million liras to his brother.

Turkey's Supreme Electoral Council (YSK) released the official results of the May 28 presidential runoff in the June 1 issue of the Official Gazette.

Accordingly, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was elected as president with 27.8 million votes, corresponding to 52.18 percent of the valid votes. The opposition's candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu received 25.5 million votes which is 47.82 percent. The turnout rate was 84.15 percent.

The YSK's decision also included the assets of President Erdoğan and his wife Emine Erdoğan.

President Erdoğan has reportedly 1.8 million liras in four bank accounts. He also stated that he owes his brother Mustafa Erdoğan 5.4 million liras.

According to the asset table, Erdoğan has two houses in Istanbul’s Üsküdar district, each valued at 7.7 million liras. In addition to that, he owns a piece of land in Rize's Güneysu district which measures 2,000 square meters and is reportedly worth 10,000 liras.

After being elected as president in 2018, Erdoğan stated that he had 6.1 million liras in bank accounts and that he owed 2 million liras to a businessman named Mehmet Gür along with the aforementioned assets in Istanbul and Rize.
