Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will pay a visit to the United States between Sept. 19-22, according to a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

It has not been yet announced if Erdoğan will hold a meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden.

On Sept. 21, Erdoğan is expected to attend this year's edition of the United Nations General Assembly summit which is set to run between Sept. 21-27.

He also plans to attend the opening ceremony of the Turkish House (Türkevi), which is located in Manhattan, right across from the United Nations.

After Biden assumed the presidency, he and Erdoğan held their first bilateral meeting in June on the sidelines of the June 14 NATO leader meeting in Brussels.

During the June meeting, the two leaders were not able to resolve a longstanding dispute that has strained ties between Washington and Ankara about Turkey’s purchase of the Russian-made S-400 surface-to-air missile system.

Turkey and the US have been at odds over a host of other issues including policy differences in Syria and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Following their June meeting, the two leaders sounded upbeat after their meeting although they did not announce what concrete progress they made.
