Prominent Turkish musician and actor Özkan Uğur dies at 69

Özkan Uğur, member of the prominent Turkish band MFÖ and actor, passed away at the age of 69 while receiving treatment due to lymphoma.

Prominent Turkish musician Özkan Uğur has died at the age of 69 while receiving treatment due to lymphoma. 

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced Uğur’s death on Twitter on July 8 and said “We will not forget this voice, which is a friend and source of heart to those who listen. We are so sorry. May God have mercy on him, I wish my condolences to his family and fans.”

Özkan Uğur, who beat lymphoma three times, was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Istanbul for a while due to the same disease after it recurred. 

Born in 1953, Uğur was a member of the famous Turkish music trio MFÖ (Mazhar, Fuat, Özkan), mainly playing bass guitar. The pop and rock band gained importance in the country especially in the 1980s.

Uğur also acted in several Turkish movies and series besides his music career, including The Bandit (Eşkıya, 1996), G.O.R.A (2004), Cennet Mahallesi (2004-2007).
