Quarantine period over for Turkish citizens from Wuhan

A 14-day quarantine was lifted for Turkish citizens that were brought from Wuhan to Ankara with a cargo plane, Turkey's Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Feb. 14. He added that no trace of the virus was detected in any of the patients that were placed under quarantine. Koca also said that Turkey is manufacturing coronavirus detection kits in accordance with World Health Organization standards and that some countries have already stated a demand for the kit.

A 14-day quarantine that was imposed on the passengers of a cargo plane that delivered Turkish citizens from the Wuhan province of China has been lifted. All 42 passengers and crew members tested negative for coronavirus, Turkey's Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Feb. 14.

"There were no discoveries [of the virus] in the workups we conducted every three days, starting from their arrival," Koca said about the plane's 42 passengers and crew members, including five children.

Two countries have stated a demand for the coronavirus diagnosis kit that will be produced in Turkey in accordance with World Health Organization standards.

"This kit yields results within 90 to 120 minutes. This time can go up to three hours with the kits manufactured in France and Germany," Koca said, adding that Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have already requested a supply of kits manufactured in Turkey.

A one-in-a-million incident

English teacher Burcu Öner said that upon notifying her mother that she would be transported to a hospital Ankara, her mother told Öner that she had given birth to her in one of the capital's hospitals.

"When I got to my room, my mom told me she had stayed in room number 307 on the third floor. Turns out I was sent to same room. It was a one-in-a-million chance," said Öner.

"There was no means of transportation available, the operation was conducted very successfully. They brought us home from a city where all transportation had stopped" said Meltem Soylu, a PhD student who was brought to Ankara from Wuhan.
