Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP Ahmet Zenbilci on Sept. 30 resigned from his party saying, “I learned that my son's name was mentioned in an investigation.”

He announced his resignation, “In order to prevent the process from harming my party and my colleagues,” and later deleted all of his social media accounts.

Zenbilci's son was caught with 20 kg of synthetic drugs in a car registered in his father's name and arrested, Deutsche Welle Turkish's Alican Uludağ revealed.

Zenbilci's son was detained as part of a drug trafficking investigation conducted by Osmaniye Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

During a search of the vehicle registered under AKP's Adana depurty Zenbilci, authorities seized 20 kilograms of "skunk" drugs.

His son was subsequently arrested on charges of "drug trafficking."
