Former Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş will carry the indictments into him as medals, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has said.

Kılıçdaroğlu commented on a recent indictment into Demirtaş, who has been imprisoned since Nov. 4, 2016 on charges related to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), that was prepared over his criticism of a prosecutor.

Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor Yüksel Kocaman, who has been slammed for delaying writing the indictment into Demirtaş, visited President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the presidential palace after his wedding, prompting criticism on the judiciary's dependence on the government.

Following his visit, Demirtaş sent a message through his lawyer Cahit Kırkazak, saying that gifts given to the prosecutors won't save them from being tried in the future.

On Sept. 23, a new indictment was prepared into Demirtaş for "threatening" Kocaman and "targeting public officials included in the struggle against terror."

According to the indictment, Demirtaş targeted Kocaman in a hearing on Jan. 7.

Kılıçdaroğlu on Sept. 23 also slammed Kocaman and said that a prosecutor can't head to the presidential palace right after getting married.

"If you are the prosecutor of the presidential palace, then don't use the title 'Chief Public Prosecutor.' We know that there are prosecutors lined up in front of Erdoğan," the CHP leader said.

Saying that Demirtaş will carry the indictments as medals, Kılıçdaroğlu noted that prosecutors can also be criticized.
