Some 14 apartment buildings in the central Anatolian province of Kırıkkale were placed under quarantine when a visitor tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival for celebrations to send off a young man to compulsory military service.

The visitor, from the western province of Izmir, was determined to possibly have come into contact with the residents of 14 apartment buildings in the Karakeçili district.

While police taped off the area for safety, health workers started to monitor the residents under quarantine.

It is a tradition in Turkey to send off young men to military service in crowded gatherings -- with convoys, music and celebrations.
