Residents of Istanbul's Bayrampaşa neighborhood rushed to rescue children from a Feb. 24 apartment building on the third floor, as adults dropped them onto blankets the neighbors stretched out under the kids.

"We heard screams while at work. We saw the kids at the window. We piled up a bunch of blankets. They saved their lives by jumping onto the blankets," said 48-year-old Yalçın Koçak.

Six kids and two adults were hospitalized after the third-floor apartment when an electricity board blasted, prompting witnesses to call fire and healthcare workers to the scene.
