Snowfall, severe winds to last in Istanbul for five days, municipality center warns
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB)’s Disaster Coordination Center has notified residents that a snowfall and severe winds will last in the city for five days starting on Feb. 5 (Sunday).

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB)’s Disaster Coordination Center has warned that snowfall and cold weather will hit the megacity early on Sunday (on Feb. 5) and last until Thursday (Feb. 9).
AKOM said that the Siberian cold spell will be accompanied by strong winds and decrease the temperature from the current 5-7°C to -1-3°C.
Snowfall will be especially prevalent in the city’s high-altitude districts such as Çatalca, Arnavutköy, Çekmeköy, Beykoz, Şile, and Aydos. The center warned against frosting throughout the city with the temperature dipping below 0°C, according to reporting by Demirören news agency.
Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya also released a message on social message on Feb. 3, saying: “My dear residents, as per the information received from the Meteorology Regional Directorate as of 4 p.m., rain mixed with snow is expected on Saturday and Sunday in Istanbul. Please let’s be cautious and watchful. We will continuously inform you about the developments.”
