A street vendor who set himself on fire after municipal police seized his stall died in Trabzon on Aug. 27. Yavuz Polat was selling corn in the picnic area belonging to the MHP-run Erzincan Municipality on the first day of Eid al-Adha on Aug. 3 when municipal police attempted to seize his stall. His funeral was held on Aug. 28 in Erzican, strikingly with the attendance of MHP Erzincan Mayor Bekir Aksun.

A street vendor who set himself on fire after municipal police seized his stall died in the Black Sea province of Trabzon on Aug. 27.

Yavuz Polat was selling corn in the picnic area belonging to the Erzincan Municipality, which is run by the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), in Turkey's east on the first day of Eid al-Adha on Aug. 3 when municipal police attempted to seize his stall.

Enraged by the move, Polat poured gasoline on himself and set himself on fire.

He was taken to a hospital in Trabzon after the incident, but succumbed to his injuries on Aug. 27.

His funeral was held on Aug. 28 in Erzican, strikingly with the attendance of MHP Erzincan Mayor Bekir Aksun.

Ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy Burhan Çakır also attended the funeral.
