A teacher was reported to Turkey's Presidential Communications Center (CİMER) for posting a picture with an alcoholic beverage on social media.

The teacher, Nazlı Merve Kılıç, was reported for "acting against the profession," Kılıç's husband Özgün Emre Koç, an academic, said on Twitter on Dec. 15.

Sharing a picture of themselves drinking, Koç said that they won't be deterred by the complaint.

According to Koç, district education authorities asked to talk to Kılıç on the issue.

"There is no official document or summoning for defense. They called her to talk. It's because she drinks in her personal life. She, of course, won't respond to this call," Koç said.

"Nothing will come out of this complaint. We won't be deterred by this," he added.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Group Deputy Chair Özgür Özel slammed the incident, saying that his party is doing politics to end these disgraces.

"After the elections, when the government changes, the state won't intervene in what its citizens are wearing, drinking, saying, reading and thinking. We'll keep on struggling until we create such a country!" Özel said on Dec. 15.
