A primary school teacher was arrested for sexually abusing nine students in the Black Sea province of Samsun, Demirören News Agency reported on Dec. 17.

Yüksel Özkan, who was appointed to a school in the İlkadım district last year, was detained this week for sexually abusing his students.

The parents of the children in the school protested the incident.

Özkan was brought to court on charges of sexual abuse and was convicted and sent to prison.

It was later revealed that prior to being placed in his current teaching position he had been convicted of the same crime.

Özkan has previously been detained twice, and convicted once, on charges of pedophilia. In 2010, he was detained on charges that he sexually abused a high school student, but was allowed to continue working. In 2016, he was detained and arrested on charges that he sexually abused several of his students while working in a school in the district of Canik, also in the Black Sea region. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison but was later released. The legal process for this case continues due to Özkan’s ongoing appeals to the Court of Cassation.
