Turkey bans sale of ethyl alcohol for domestic use

A new regulation banned the sale of ethyl alcohol for use at home, Turkey's Official Gazette reported on Oct. 1. As Ankara hiked taxes by 400 percent in the past decade, alcohol consumers have resorted to the risky process of making alcoholic beverages at home.

The sale of ethyl alcohol for use at home was banned in Turkey, the Official Gazette reported on Oct. 1.

While the regulation will go into effect in 60 days, the sale ban will apply to online trade as well.

Turkey's steep tax hikes on alcohol in the past decade have reached 443 percent, leading consumers to produce alcoholic beverages at home, yielding a potentially fatal product.
