Turkey ranks 150th among 163 countries in Global Peace Index

Turkey is ranked 150th among 163 countries in Global Peace Index 2020 released by the Institute for Economics and Peace. The country registered an 8.3 percent increase in its incarceration rate in one year, from 318 prisoners per 100,000 people to 344, the institute's report said.

Inthe institute’s 2019 index, Turkey’s ranking had fallen from149th to 152nd.

The Global Peace Index ranks 163 independent states according to their level of peacefulness. It is the world’s leading measure of global peacefulness. The report presents an analysis on trends in peace, its economic value and how to develop peaceful societies.

According to the newly released report, Turkey remains the least peaceful country in Europe. “Turkey is the only European country to be ranked in the bottom 25 least peaceful countries,” the report said.

Afghanistanis the least peaceful country in the world for the second year in arow, followed by Syria, Iraq, South Sudan and Yemen.
