Turkey has scored below average on the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development's (OECD) Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018 report, the results of which were released on Tuesday.

The report was based on a test that is conducted every three years and covers 37 OECD countries. 6,890 15-year-old students in Turkey took the PISA test, and the country placed 31st out of 37, coming in ahead of Slovakia, Greece, Chile, Mexico, Colombia and Spain.

China and Singapore placed 1st and 2nd respectively on the 2018 PISA test.

On the last PISA test conducted in 2015, Turkey placed 50th out of 72 countries.

Results are positive according to Turkey's education ministry

Turkey's Ministry of National Education interpreted the results as positive, noting that Turkey increased its average scores in math, reading and science in the 2018 test in comparison with the last one held in 2015, and that Turkey was the country that had the highest increase in science scores since the previous test.
