Turkey to send first astronaut to space in ten days

Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced that the first Turkish astronaut would embark on a space journey on the night connecting Jan. 17 to 18.

Industry and Technology Ministry Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced that Turkey's first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı has entered quarantine for space travel.

The launching will occur on 18 Jan. 18, 01:11 Turkey time in Florida, United States and the astronauts will dock with the International Space Station (ISS) on Jan, 19 13:15.

Gezeravcı will be part of the Axiom Space firm’s “Ax3” mission, “which is the first all-European commercial astronaut mission to the ISS to access low-Earth orbit.”

Turkish astronaut will be accompanied by Spanish, Italian, and Swedish colleagues. His part of the mission was included to the Turkey’s “National Space Program” as well.

A commemorative stamp was designed by the Turkish Space Agency and Post and Telegraph Agency (PTT) for Turkey's first human spacefligh mission.
