Turkey’s death toll from the coronavirus rose by 19 to total 4,711 and new confirmed cases rose by 989 to bring the country’s total to 171,121, Health Ministry data showed on June 8.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca wrote on Twitter that the country has registered an increase in the number of cases compared to previous days, but that this increase can be "easily" prevented if citizens wear their facial masks and abide by the social distancing measures.

"There is a mobility in the case numbers which is easy to prevent on the condition that the rules of mask and social distancing are maintained," Koca wrote, adding: "If precautions decrease, the threat will increase."

Koca’s warning comes a week after Turkey began its “normalization” process, reopening businesses and resuming public transportation operations.
