Turkey's northwestern city of Eskişehir has ranked the eighth safest city in the world, according to statistics published by the Numbeo global database website.

A total of 431 cities were covered in the ‘Crime Index by City 2021’ report.

Eskişehir registered only 17.58 on the Crime Index and a high 82.42 on the Safety Index, according to the report. A city's Safety Index is inversely correlated to its Crime Index.

The other cities in the top 10 safest cities are Abu Dhabi (UAE), Doha (Qatar), Taipei (Taiwan), Quebec City (Canada), Zurich (Switzerland), Sharjah (UAE), Dubai (UAE), Munich (Germany) and Trieste (Italy).

Other than Eskişehir, Turkey's Mediterranean city of Antalya (ranking 61st), western city of Bursa (ranking 74th), western city of İzmir (ranking 77th), capital Ankara (183rd) and Istanbul (ranking 263rd) entered the list.

The Numbeo database has been publishing annual reports since 2009, based on the crime rates in countries around the world.

The index of crimes is measured according to the laws of the countries, as there are acts that constitute crimes in some countries while they are not deemed crimes in some other countries.
