Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has called on Iran not to execute three young Iranians whose death sentences were upheld by a court on July 14.

CHP MP İbrahim Kaboğlu said in a video posted on his social account that two of these young Iranians were extradited by Turkey to Iran despite their asylum requests from the Turkish government.

“Two of them -- Saeed Tamjidi and Mohammad Rajabi – left the country in fear for their lives after the arrest of [the third Iranian given death sentence] Hossein Moradi and filed asylum request in Turkey. But Turkey handed these young people over to the Iranian security forces, in contravention of its international obligation of non-refoulment to a country where one faces death penalty and/or torture,” Kaboğlu said on July 15.

Iran’s judiciary accuses Moradi (25), Rajabi (25) and Tamjidi (27) of involvement in last November’s massive anti-government protests that began over soaring fuel prices.

Theupholding of the death sentence against these three men has sparkedan outcry from human rights groups as well as a swell of activismagainst capital punishment on social media.

Rajabiand Tamjidi sought asylum in Turkey last year but were deporteddespite the Turkish government's knowledge that they could face deathsentence in Iran.

CHP MP Kaboğlu in his video called on the Turkish government to act immediately for the Iranian authorities to halt the execution and to ensure the three young men's access to a fair trial in a manner that will avoid the death penalty.
