Turkey’s population increases by 300 thousand in one year

Turkey's official statistics institution reported that the country’s population increased by 292,567 in one year, becoming 85.6 million.

Turkey’s population has become 85.66 million, increasing by 292,567 in one year according to official data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).

42.8 million of this population (50.02%) was recorded as male whereas 42.8 as female (49.98%). 

While the annual population growth rate was 1.1 per thousand in 2023, it became 3.4 per thousand in 2024.

The foreign population residing in Turkey decreased by 89,996 compared to the previous year and has become 1.48 million.

Meanwhile, Istanbul’s population has become 15.7 million, increasing by some 45,678 in one year. 

According to official figures, 759,363 people whose hometown are Sivas province are residing Istanbul, followed by 546,718 whose hometown are Kastamonu.

Bayburt became the province with the least population in Turkey with 83,676 population.
