Turkish actor Tamer Karadağlı was slammed after the Golden Orange Film Festival for interrupting Nihal Yalçın during her speech for the Best Lead Actress Award on Oct. 9.
Karadağlı delivered Yalçın with the actual award during her speech, prompting her to ask "Who just handed me the award? Are you trying to tell me to be quiet?"
The actor responded by saying that he only meant to allow her to hold the award while speaking, although his awkward behavior during Yalçın's statement also raised eyebrows.
The actor is seen grimacing and scoffing while Yalçın speaks, and appears to nod to himself before abruptly stepping ahead to hand the award to the actress.
Artist Güvenç Dağüstün voiced his support for the actress and said he disliked Karadağlı, but noted that Yalçın should have taken over her award before delivering her speech.
"She just jumps to the microphone out of excitement. That gentleman would have been long gone [during her speech] had she grabbed the award first," Dağüstün said in a tweet.
The actress confirmed that she was indeed very excited, adding that she was "able to watch the amazing facial expressions while watching after the ceremony :)."
The actress pleaded with the public later in the night to "not allow [Karadağlı] to outshine" her, saying "This night is my night!"
The Turkish Federation of Women's Associations (TKDF) also slammed the actor's attitude, adding that "no power was able to silence the women of this country."
"A man like you, who at best is hungry for attention, could definitely not do it," the TKDF tweeted.
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) co-chair Pervin Buldan also congratulated the actress and said in a tweet that "Women were never quiet, and they won't be either."
