Turkish actress sued for condemning release of rapist sergeant
Turkish actress Ezgi Mola became the subject of a lawsuit for tweeting in protest of a court's ruling for the release of Musa Orhan, a sergeant who stood trial for the sexual assault of a young woman who killed herself. Mola is facing insult charges for calling Orhan a rapist.

Turkish actress Ezgi Mola became the subject of a lawsuit for a tweet she wrote in August of 2020 in protest of a court's ruling to release Musa Orhan, a sergeant accused of sexually assaulting a young woman who killed herself.
"Drown in your conscience that let out a rapist scum! You've taken away all law, prayer, wishes, requests and hope we had!! I don't have anything to say!! Shame on you!!" Mola tweeted Aug. 20, 2020.
Orhan's attorney made a criminal complaint about Mola with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office about the actress's tweet, which led to an indictment against her.
Mola faces up to two years and four months in prison on charges of "verbal, written or visual message of insult" and "insult" in an indictment prepared as a result of the sergeant's criminal complaint.
The court's acceptance of the indictment prompted a protest on social media, as a hashtag meaning "You're not alone Ezgi Mola" became trending on Twitter shortly after the news emerged.
"It was beautiful to feel that I'm not alone," Mola said. "Thank you all, I love you all, and I know that love will save us all."
