National flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) has reportedly dismissed its pilot Evren Turan on the grounds that he liked and shared the support tweets for main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and CHP Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

According to reporting by Airport Haber on June 20, THY dismissed Evren Turan after the elections and he brought the issue to the judiciary.

Airport Haber’s owner and opposition Good (İYİ) Party Istanbul Provincial Branch Founding Board Member Ali Kıdık also shared the reporting on his social media account and said “Turkish Airlines Chair of the Board, Ahmet Bolat, with the help of the Executive Board, fired Pilot Evren Turan, who liked and retweeted the tweets for Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Ekrem İmamoğlu. This means that no one can work in THY except AKP (Justice and Development Party) members.”

In the 2023 presidential election, Kılıçdaroğlu ran against Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, losing the election in the second round.
