Turkish court blocks access to Mezopotamya News Agency's website for the 28th time

A Turkish court on Mach 2 banned the pro-Kurdish Mezopotamya News Agency's website for the 28th time in the country. The agency’s appeal was previously rejected, leaving the Constitutional Court as the only remaining avenue for judicial redress.

A Turkish court on March 2 banned access to pro-Kurdish Mezopotamya News Agency's (MA) website. This is the second time in a week that the website has been blocked by Turkish authorities.

On Feb. 23, a court in the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri had delivered the 27th ruling to block access to MA's website (mezopotamyaajansi27.com). After its closure, the website could have been accessed on mezopotamyaajansi28.com. But a court in the southern province of Osmaniye also blocked this website on March 2.

The agency continues to operate from alternative domains.

Mezopotamya News Agency journalists Adnan Bilen and Cemil Uğur have been behind bars since Oct. 6, 2020 over their report on the throwing of two Kurdish men from a military helicopter in the eastern province of Van.

Although the journalists marked five months in prison, prosecutors have not still prepared an indictment detailing the charges.
