Turkish gov’t says per capita income surpasses $15,000

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz on Feb. 23 stated that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita exceeded $15,000 in 2024 according to the government’s calculations,in a meeting with foreign country and political party representatives.

Speaking at a program organized for visitors attending the Justice and Development Party (AKP) congress, Yılmaz stated, "Despite the (2023) earthquakes causing a direct cost of $104 billion and an indirect cost of $150 billion, Turkey has once again demonstrated its resilience and strength."

The vice president said Turkey reached “a historic milestone” with $262 billion in exports. 

“Although not fully calculated yet, our estimates indicate that our gross domestic product has exceeded $1.3 trillion, and per capita income has surpassed $15,000," added Yılmaz.

He underscored that the government’s primary goal has been to reduce inflation, “which is currently relatively high” 

He emphasized two key objectives, "One is to boost manufacturing, growth, and employment, while the other is to enhance social welfare. However, these are not short-term goals."

Turkey's GDP per capita was 13,243 dollars according to the official statistics. The official figures for 2024 have not be disclosed with the public yet.
