Turkish hackers have said that they have taken down the websites of Dutch politician and European Parliament’s former rapporteur on Turkey Kati Piri and the Labor Party following Piri's call on Turkey to release political prisoners.

The hackers, who call themselves Anka Neferler Tim, said that the cyberattack called a distributed denial of service (DDoS) on the websites was carried out after Piri voiced support to Boğaziçi University students and Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) former co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş.

"We blocked access to the website of Piri, who protected the provocateurs in Boğaziçi and terrorist Demirtaş, and her Labor Party," the group said.

"Know your place," it added.

Following the attack, Piri said that it may be linked to the release of political prisoners such as Demirtaş and philanthropist Osman Kavala.

Piri has been a vocal critic of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). She has been slamming the antidemocratic practices of Turkey.

Nacho Sanchez Amor, the European Parliament's current rapporteur on Turkey, slammed the attack on Piri's websites, saying he "fully shares" her concerns on the issue of human rights and rule of law in Turkey. "They will not silence us," he wrote on Twitter.
