Turkish mafia leader Sedat Peker has claimed that he tracks Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu's every move, noting that he knows what the politician talks about even in cabinet meetings.
Peker, a former ally of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), has been accusing current and former politicians of committing serious crimes, including murder. His most high-level target is Soylu, who has been under fire for not giving plausible explanations in the face of the accusations.
Currently believed to be in the United Arab Emirates, Peker had been sharing one-hour-long videos on YouTube to tell his viewers about the alleged dark acts of the politicians, before he was reportedly warned by Dubai authorities to refrain from shooting videos over security reasons. He has been tweeting since then.
On July 11, Peker claimed that he knows what Soylu talks about in cabinet meetings and that the minister is happy to have posed for pictures with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during an official visit to the southeastern province of Diyarbakır last week.
"You were talking about me in cabinet meetings, saying, 'We're tracking Sedat Peker and he is in so-and-so country. We'll carry out operations against him whereever he is and in Turkey.' While you're tracking me minute by minute, I've been tracking your every move, including your speeches at cabinet meetings," Peker said in a series of tweets.
"While you are stealing billions of dollars, I have the support of police officers who committed suicide because of being unable to care for their families with low salaries. The prayers of all children who you made cry just like my own children are with me," he said.
Peker was referring to a raid on his house in April, during which he claimed that police officers pointed guns at his little daughters and treated his wife with disrespect. The mafia boss says that he decided to spill secrets following this incident.
Peker on July 11 also said that he will continue making accusations against Soylu following July 15, which is the fifth year anniversary of the 2016 coup attempt.
"I will hit you in such a place (figuratively speaking) that you will lose your mind," Peker said.
"You are happy like a child because you posed for a picture with Mr. President. I promise you, your happiness won't last for very long," he said.
While the opposition has been calling on Soylu to resign and the judiciary to act in the face of the allegations, President Erdoğan posed for pictures with Soylu in an apparent show of support to the minister.
His staunchest supporter, however, remains to be far-right Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli.
