Turkish main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Özgür Özel has announced that his party will send a delegation for the new Trump administration in 2025, online news outlet Ekonomim reported on Nov. 13.

During a talk with journalists, Özel said, “CHP is a party aspiring to be the government. It is the first party in the last elections and the latest polls. Most probably Trump will spend one year of his term with (Erdoğan) and three years with us. Maximum, 1.5-2 years with (Erdoğan),” claiming that an early election will be held.

“It is necessary to move forward with institutional relations, not personal relations. We have suffered a lot from personal relations. We have very experienced diplomats in foreign policy and we need to open space for them,” Özel said.

“Namık Tan is a chance for us to conduct relations with the Trump administration. It is very important that he has been an ambassador to the US. We have a very strong foreign policy advisory board. We can establish a strong diplomatic delegation. We can make contacts there that will make a lasting and positive contribution to Turkey-US relations,” he added.

Now a CHP deputy, Tan served as Turkey's ambassador to the United States between 2010 and 2014.
