A 79-year-old Turkish man died due to a fire in the northern province of Gümüşhane in the forest in which he planted 12,000 saplings, Anadolu and Demirören news agencies reported.

Accordingly, the man, Ömer Bulut, who normally lives in Germany was paying a visit to his hometown Kayadibi village, and went to his land to water the trees he planted.

Bulut noticed the ground fire nearby and tried to extinguish it with his own means, but was trapped in the area as the fire grew.

The security and fire teams found Bulut dead after they brought the fire under control.

Bulut planted 12,000 pine saplings, which he bought by spending 500,000 lira, with his brother Abudrrahman Bulut on a land determined by the Forestry Directorate.

Kayadibi village head (“mukhtar”) Adem Alkan said, “Ömer's dream was to turn this area into a forest and leave it to future generations. We lost him. Our village is in mourning, it has lost an important value. He allocated all his retirement money here. The two brothers were taking care of the saplings.”
