A man identified only as Ömer İ. shot and killed his former fiancé and her mother hours after the woman applied for a restraining order against him on Oct. 27 in the Central Anatolian province of Konya.

The double femicide regrettably added 27-year-old Büşra Gizem Güzelsoy and her 48-year-old mother Gülya Barutçu to Turkey's ever-growing list of women slain by men.

The assailant reportedly shot into the vehicle, killing the two women, and fled the scene.

Police stopped Ömer İ.'s vehicle shortly after the femicides, where the killer committed suicide during the stand-off with law enforcement.

The young woman's failed legal attempt to protect herself from the assailant is also common in Turkey, as assailants pierce legal barriers or simply evade punishment.
