Turkish megastar Tarkan has reacted against the damage inflicted upon the world-famous fair chimneys in the region of Cappadocia due to a road construction.

In a tweet, Tarkan shared the hashtags of “Kapadokya” (Cappadocia) and “KapadokyayaDokunma” (Do not touch Cappadocia) and wrote: “For profit, they can even waste away a natural and cultural value such as Cappadocia which has an extraordinary beauty and is on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. Unbelievable. These (construction) works need to stop immediately and our Cappadocia should not be touched.”

Activists have been voicing their criticism against a recent road construction that is taking place between the towns of Göreme and Ortahisar. They point out that the road route is in the First Degree Archaeological and Natural Site area.

The vibration caused by the construction machines is said to be greatly damaging the historical artifacts and fair chimneys in the region.
