Turkey’s Justice Ministry has refused to release the number of jailed journalists, saying that it “is information that does not concern the public.”

The ministry made the remarks in response to an application filed with the Presidential Communications Center (CİMER) on Sept. 7, according to reporting by Mezopotamya News Agency.

CİMER cited the ministry as saying in its response: “Information and documents on institutions which do not concern the public and are about institutions’ internal implementations and own personnel, are outside the framework of the right to information. But institution employees who are affected by the regulations in question retain the right to information."
