Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Ministry spent a shocking 1,716,350 Turkish Liras on repairs that the office building required between 2011 and 2021, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu said.

Tanrıkulu presented a series of parliamentary inquiries to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez in an attempt to highlight the state's seemingly arbitrary spendings despite the country's financial struggles.

The ministry reportedly took out 1,716,350 Turkish Liras from their budget on "repairs" required on the office building between 2011 and 2021, Dönmez said in response to the deputy.

The ministry also spent over half a million liras on stationery supplies for employees of the offices, the minister added.

"Our ministry has spent 650,676 Turkish Liras to satisfy stationary needs between 2011 and 2021," Dönmez said.

Government officials' wasteful use of state resources has become a common practice under the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), with ousted Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan facing no repercussions for overcharging Ankara in a sale from her own company.
