Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş on Dec. 17 scolded the audience during an event after not hearing enough applause.

Speaking during an event regarding Rumi in the central Konya province, Kurtulmuş said, “In Syria, Aleppo and Damascus lodges are two of the most important pillars of Mevlevi (doctrine). We hope that soon there will be beautiful, peaceful days in Aleppo and Damascus Mevlevi lodges where Mevlevi rituals will be held as they are here. It may seem like a dream now, but in a very short time, the Jerusalem Mevlevi Lodge will open its doors and welcome Mevlana (Rumi) friends like you from all over the world”.

“I hope that the gates of Damascus should open the gates of Jerusalem, and I hope that the freedom that was granted to the Damascus Mevlevi Lodge should also be granted to the one in Jerusalem,” he added, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

After not hearing enough applause, Kurtulmuş said, “You applaud hesitantly. Do you have any hesitation?,” receiving more applause after scolding.
