Turkish presidential security office surpasses 2021 budget in six months

Turkey's Presidential Protection Directorate surpassed its 2021 budget by 10 million liras in the first six months of the year, Anka News Agency reported on Oct. 22. The 2022 budget proposal currently discussed in parliament foresees a hike in the unit's funding.

The Turkish Presidential Protection Directorate has used up all the funds allocated to it in the 2021 budget in the first six months of the year, Anka News Agency reported on Oct. 22.

Known for their grandiose protection units assigned to the president, the Presidential Protection Directorate surpassed their 142 milllion-lira 2021 budget in the first six months by spending over 151 million liras.

The government's budget proposal, currently being discussed in parliament, suggests that more than 184 million liras be granted to the Presidential Protection Directorate in 2022. 

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Protection Directorate was granted a mere 73 million liras at almost half the presidential budget in 2021, and only 54 million liras of the funding were spent in the first six months of the year. 

The parliamentary security budget is being proposed to increase to 95 million liras in the 2022 budget proposal. 

The same proposal offers the General Directorate of Security (Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü) some 313 cars, seven four-wheelers, 20 vans, five pick-up trucks, 116 of another type of van, 11 buses, five trucks, two ambulances, one funeral vehicle and 70 motorcycles.
