The Turkish governments historical research authority (TTK) revealed that its new director had violated official protocol by commencing his duties prior to his official assignment to the post.
The Turkish Historical Institute (TTK) published a news brief noting that its new director Ahmet Yaramış had commenced his duties on April 20, though his assignment wasn't announced on the official gazette until April 24.
Main opposition Deputy Chair Özgür Özel said that Yaramış' assignment as TTK director disrespects the legacy of the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, as Yaramış is a board member of the controversial Ensar Foundation.
The Ensar Foundation has been involved in a sexual abuse scandal involving children that lodged at dormitories it owned. The Foundation was also accused of dodging tax duties on donations it received.
"This is a tribal government, a tribal farce," Özel said. "It assigned a board member of the Ensar Foundation as the director of the TTK that Ataturk founded that his successors protected and elevated.”
Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chair Özel said that Yaramış' assignment was the exact move one would choose if they wanted to make Atatürk turn in his grave, implicating President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his “palace."
"Let them enjoy their seats. Mister Ahmet (Yaramış) should sit comfortable as long as the one in the palace does. The palace regime is falling. That fall will bring an end to these assignments that Ataturk would regret.”
