Turkish top religious body’s budget to increase 117 pct in 2023

The Turkish government has submitted its 2023 budget proposal to parliament, seeking to increase the funds allocated to the Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet) by 117 percent, reaching the very sizeable sum of 35.9 billion Turkish Liras.

The 2022 budget proposal submitted to the Turkish parliament foresees a 117 percent increase in the total funds allocated for Turkey's Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet) from the year before, the daily BirGün reported on Oct. 18.

According to the 2023 Central Government Budget Bill, next year's budget expenditures were targeted as 4.5 trillion liras and budget revenues as 3.8 trillion liras. 

According to the proposal, Diyanet  will have more budget than the executive ministries.

A budget of 35.9 billion liras was allocated to the Diyanet for 2023, which started 2022 with a budget of 16.1 billion liras. This proposed budget corresponds to an average of 98 million liras per day.

2.2 trillion liras was allocated for the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.
