A university dean has resigned after footage of him secretly looking at female students' pictures surfaced on social media late on May 12.

Gazi University Faculty of Science Dean Orhan Acar didn't realize that the camera and sound was on during a video conference and told the person next to him, who is not seen in the footage, that they have the opportunity to see female students' pictures.

Acar didn't realize that his voice was heard, but the person next to him warned him on the issue, which was followed by Acar looking at the camera with regret.

The footage caused uproar on social media, with thousands of Twitter users urging him to resign.

The university on May 13 announced that Acar resigned and an investigation was launched into him.

Women's groups also urged authorities to look into whether Acar was involved in any sexual assault incidents in the university.
