A video where a young woman named Dilan Koç is asking the public for help in protecting her from an abusive man and his family started circulating on social media on April 9, with hashtags in support of the woman quickly trending on Twitter.
Koç is seen in a vehicle in front of the Istanbul Büyükçekmece Courthouse in the video, where she said she sought help about threats she's been receiving from a man named Sidar Alanç and his relative Ayşe Alanç.
"They call me and threaten me that they'll kill me and hide my body parts in the woods," Koç said about the family's abuse through tears.
The Alanç family also reportedly terrorized Koç by saying that she didn't have a father to protect her.
"It's true, I don't have a father. He died, so he can't protect me. Please, you guys be my father, family and sisters and brothers, make my voice be heard. I don't want to die like the other women," the young woman is seen saying in the video.
The threats made by the Alanç family are eerily similar to conditions that many other women in Turkey have died under. The country reported 28 femicides in March alone, along with 19 women dying under suspicious conditions in the same period.
