14 workers who were fired from a factory of the United States food company Cargill in the province of Bursa have been staging demonstrations outside the building for 894 days. They are protesting against their unjust layoffs.

According to Tek-Gıda Iş Labor Union General Secretary İbrahim Ören, the workers were fired for attempting to unionize in 2018 after applying to the Ministry of Labor, and were let go from their jobs on an unrelated technicality.

“If you continue your unlawful and repressive attitude, this struggle, which we had to slow down due to the pandemic but which we have pursued tirelessly for 894 days, will be carried out in a stronger and more effective manner,” Ören said.

“Under the leadership of the International Food Workers Union with which we are affiliated, we will continue to reveal the unlawfulness you have committed in this country in a stronger fashion with the increasing support of organizations that are connected to our union,” Ören added.
