Two earthquake survivors were severely hurt in a tent fire in Turkey’s southern province of Hatay’s İskenderun district.

Accordingly, a fire broke out on early March 26 in a tent established for the earthquake victims, Demirören News Agency reported. Three siblings were injured due to the fire, two of whom were severely hurt.

Two sisters who were transferred to Adana City Hospital are still undergoing treatment.

The fire is thought to be caused by the electrical contact.

After the fire, social media users urged the government to provide containers to quake-victims, most of whom live in tents.

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) head Yunus Sezer last week announced that 501,069 tents were established in the disaster area, housing more than two million people.

Turkey’s southeastern region was struck by two major earthquakes on Feb. 6, one at a magnitude of 7.7 and the other at 7.6. The first one’s epicenter was Kahramanmaraş’s Pazarcık district, whereas the second one was the Elbistan district. The quakes affected 11 provinces in the region.

The number of citizens who have died in the earthquakes stands at 50,096, but experts fear that the number is much higher, taking into consideration the thousands of buildings that collapsed.
